In the case of Mortal Coil, the lamp is voltage-limited and connected to battery backup power. The lamp is expected to burn continuously for 70 to 100 years, expiring sometime after my centennial birthday and sometime before its own. In Torch Song, each box supplies power to the other such that both lamps symbiotically share equal burn time. Eventually one will expire, followed by the other. |
